This is the first governance newsletter of Epoch-9, and after proceeding through the onboarding process, both councils got straight to work. With the arrival of the Illuvium Arena and PB3, there was much discussion surrounding rewards incentives, the future of Illuvium products, and the ways the DAO presents itself to the broader market through marketing and other endeavours.
Illuvium Main Council (IMC) Review
The newly elected Illuvium Main Council (IMC) addressed key topics, including initial PvP gameplay feedback, preparations for the Open Beta launch, and in-game activities. Further discussions covered Safety Pool fulfilment and committee member onboarding. A financial update and considerations for DAO priorities were highlighted, focusing on the outlook for 2024. The Council discussed additional incentives for gameplay going into Open Beta. Epoch priorities going forward include a focus on reward structures, post-yield liquidity, VARA compliance, Open Beta launch approvals, governance documentation updates, and Beyond Wave 3 parameters. The Council emphasized ongoing reviews and welcomed community feedback on potentially overlooked topics.
Illuvium Community Council (ICC) Review
The newly elected Illuvium Community Council (ICC) ushered in the era of Governance v3 as Epoch 9 commenced. The ICC began the month by assigning each member to dedicated Discord channels. Through this, they will ensure the community’s feedback, ideas, and sentiments are actively acknowledged and considered. In their weekly meetings, the ICC discussed various topics such as the moderation policy, ILV slogan, proposal upvote threshold, Illuvium Zero in-game revenue and entry fee tournaments.
Notable community discussions include delaying arena leaderboard incentive, increasing deck size, increasing team storage limit and dealing with unspent sILV2.
Proposals Recap
IIP-41-R Illuvium PvP Tournament Fund PASSED
This proposal aims to provide ILV token rewards to tournament organizers. The proposal was revised to clearly define the responsible parties for each stage of the review process. The Council believes the proposal will nurture the Arena PvP tournament scene and help establish a robust competitive player base before Open Beta. The Council recommends periodic reviews of the proposal.
IIP-43 BOGO D1SK Promotion for Illuvium Beyond PASSED
This proposal aims to implement a "Buy One, Get One Free" D1SK promotion to enhance engagement and expand the Illuvium Beyond user base. The IMC believes the proposal may enable ILV to reach more Web3 communities and strengthen the ILV branding. The IMC suggests monitoring and evaluating the result of this proposal.
ICCP-13-R Trading Blackout Enhancements PASSED
This proposal aims to strengthen IIP-3 Trading Blackout by prohibiting the delisting of assets, extending the blackout period and clearly setting transaction nominal value limits. The proposal was revised to set a higher transaction limit.
ICCP-14 Illuvitars Wave 2 Extension and Promo Sale PASSED
This proposal aims to extend Illuvitars Wave 2 sale and set the parameters for Promo D1sk sale. The IMC has considered multiple options to support Beyond players, the promo partner and the DAO. The IMC acknowledged the community sentiment regarding the extension and the content of the past Promo sales.
ICCP-15 Vote of No Confidence (VoNC) Changes PASSED
This proposal aims to provide clear guidelines for the Vote of No Confidence (VoNC) process. The Council agrees that an overall improvement in the VoNC process is necessary after reviewing the first initiated VoNC, especially considering the longer epoch duration in Governance v3.
ICCP-16 - Adjustment to Committee Structure PASSED
This proposal allows the IMC to select up to 5 advisors per committee instead of being restricted to only 3. This proposal also allows the committee to be removed and added mid-epoch at the discretion of the IMC. This improvement to the current structure of the Committee encourages more diverse perspectives and avoids turning away potential advisors that could strengthen the DAO.
IIP-44 Game Development Selection PASSED
This proposal allows the team to go through a well-structured process when proposing new games for the DAO to consider. This will help the DAO better understand the current resources available and the potential development time of future products. Alongside this, it will allow the team and DAO to make educated decisions on products that are marketable in the current gaming landscape. This proposal creates a fundamental addition to the process where the team can present all the elements needed all the way up to a game pitch to allow the DAO to make the most informed decision possible.
Major Governance Discussions
Landowner Revenue
The aim of this proposal is to clarify that landowners should receive a share of 5% of the total in-game revenue for all current and future games within the Illuvium ecosystem, regardless of whether fuel is used in the pricing structure. The community discussed whether Illuvium Beyond is considered a game and if Illuvitar D1sk sales should be regarded as in-game revenue. Additionally, the community discussed the mechanism of revenue distribution for in-game revenue if fuel is not used. The Team has stated that Beyond is indeed a game, and landowners should receive their share from the D1sk sales.
Delay Arena Leaderboard Rewards
The aim of the proposal is to delay the arena leaderboard rewards until crucial game bugs are fixed, the game achieves stability, gains popularity and sees improvements in gameplay. The community also discussed the policy on alternate accounts, leaderboard resets, and the competitiveness of the Web3 gaming industry. The Team has addressed this proposal, committing to improving the game while offering rewards to the players. Additionally, the Team recognizes the importance of Daily Active Users (DAU) to investors and the valuable feedback from players.
Increase Team Storage Limit to 50
The aim of the proposal is to provide more flexibility for testing and sharing teams. The Team has addressed this proposal, confirming their commitment to increase the team storage limit in the next update.
30 cards Teams
The aim of the proposal is to improve the arena gaming experience by increasing the number of cards in a team. The Team suggested that the community wait for further patches before making a decision on this proposal.
Constant Tournament System
The aim of the proposal is to enhance player retention, boost active player numbers and generate additional revenue for the DAO. The community has engaged in extensive discussions regarding the mechanism for the tournament system. Currently, the ICC is actively seeking for legal feedback from the Team concerning the entry fee aspect of the proposal.
sILV2 Removal and Swap Facility
The aim of the proposal is to anticipate the impact of unspent sILV2 on revenue at the beginning of open beta by providing a swap facility. The swap facility would allow the conversion from sILV2 to locked ILV tokens. Alternative options to address sILV2 were explored, including increased sILV2 utilization and the implementation of a time limit for using sILV2. As of now, the proposal has not yet reached the minimum upvotes.
Update the Fight for ETH Slogan
The aim of the proposal is to review the ILV slogan in consideration of the current sentiment among gamers in crypto games. The proposal also assesses the relevance of the slogan without wager functionality enabled. The Team has addressed this proposal, stating that the slogan is integral to the lore.
