Welcome to the July edition of the Illuvium DAO & Governance Review. This month's newsletter delves into the latest developments and discussions across our sub-councils, from the Strategy sub-council's in-depth exploration of the in-game economy project, Fuel, to the Marketing sub-council's efforts to support Illuvium-focused guilds. Let's dive in to discover how our community's ideas and actions are shaping the future of Illuvium!
Strategy Sub-Council Review
After the Strategy sub-council finalized ICCP-9 concerning the Safety Pool Threshold, they continued their efforts to address several pressing topics behind the scenes. One recurring subject of discussion has been the peer evaluation of council members, which plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of their work. Establishing a well-defined process that provides clear guidelines for reviewing each other's performance is imperative.
Apart from financial and governance-related matters, the Strategy Sub-Council is actively brainstorming the most significant in-game economy project: the functioning of Fuel. Working closely with the Team, they are drafting several proposals presenting multiple solutions for how Fuel could operate. Several other pending proposals are contingent on resolving the Fuel issue, including in-game pricing and guarantees for Landholders. Additionally, landowners have raised concerns about the rental system, prompting the council to collaborate with Polemos and offer recommendations on essential features necessary for the rental system to succeed.
Marketing Sub-Council Review
Over the last month, the Marketing sub-council has held multiple meetings to address various topics. During these sessions, the Council engaged in brainstorming sessions for the Illuvium Beyond Set 1 Wave 2 sale, focusing on several key ideas:
- Incorporating feedback from the community on Illuvitars Wave 1 and its impact on Wave 2.
- Allocating marketing d1sks to Guilds for giveaways, enhancing community engagement.
- Devising marketing campaigns for Illuvitar PFPs on social media platforms.
- Considering potential changes to the Alpha D1sk price/quantity for a better market response.
A strong emphasis was placed on supporting Illuvium-focused guilds, both established and new, to increase their involvement, drive broader adoption, and utilize them as valuable marketing assets. The previously discussed "Illuvium Snap" marketing idea has been temporarily put on hold to prioritize ongoing ventures.
Game Sub-Council Review
This month, the Game sub-council published a proposal to enact a rule change for the Ascendant Arena. The proposal involves removing the ability to use a stage 1 Illuvial as one of its higher stages. Additionally, they suggested offering free pre-built decks and introducing a limited number of free rotation Illuvials, ranger equipment, and augments. The primary objective is to enhance onboarding, improve the early arena experience, and facilitate learning.
During the discussions, the progress of Ascendant Arena was thoroughly reviewed, considering its current development state and identifying necessary actions. Concerns were raised about the gambling aspect in Leviathan Arena, as it poses potential legal risks. The legal team explored alternative options, such as poker-like entries or rewarding store points to address this.
The Strategy Sub-Council actively participated in these discussions, providing insights on deck pricing, comparing Illuvium Arena to Trading Card Games (TCGs), and discussing the pricing intent for different demographics.
The Gaming Sub-Council also discussed their role as GSC, which involves acting as a bridge between the development team and the community. They highlighted their responsibility to represent the community's interests and focus on bigger-picture ideas. The topics briefly covered were the T5 land situation, botting policies, and voting processes.
Community Sub-Council Review
Recently, the Community Sub-Council has been focusing on several crucial topics related to Illuvium's DAO and governance structure. Council members were delegated epoch-specific tasks by the Main Council, and a priority list was created to manage these responsibilities effectively.
A significant milestone was achieved with the launch of a governance-specific newsletter on the Illuvium website. The Council explored potential use cases for this newsletter, such as distributing VODs from Town Halls and other governance-related content to ensure the community remains well-informed. Additionally, they carefully considered scheduling and structuring options for events like Town Halls to ensure community questions and feedback are addressed effectively across various platforms.
In addition to the newsletter, the Council has been actively working on various initiatives. This includes setting up a governance-specific information channel within Discord, updating the existing FAQ channel, and outlining different types of governance content that content creators could assist with. These efforts aim to enhance communication and transparency within the Illuvium community regarding governance matters.
Proposals Recap
ICCP-9 Safety Pool Threshold PASSED
This proposal specifies that the maximum cap for the Safety Pool be reduced to $5M USD. The rationale for the change is that to account for the $10M raise conducted with Framework, the Safety Pool should be reduced accordingly.
ICCP-10 Proposal Process Optimization PASSED
ICCP-10 modifies the flow of proposals through councils, offering sub-councils the option to recommend revisions to proposals based on input from the team, research conducted or any other information that has come to light. This proposal intends to improve efficiency by allowing revisions while a proposal is underway instead of requiring any modification to undergo community sentiment gathering an additional time. This proposal also adds the idea of a sponsor to the proposal process. The sponsor ultimately has the final say in whether revisions recommended by sub-councils align with the original intent of a proposal.
