Discover the latest in Illuvium's thriving governance landscape. The Illuvium Council has been hard at work, bringing innovations and improvements to the Illuvium ecosystem. From revamped governance structures with Governance V3 and enhancing marketing strategies to progressing game developments and community engagement, we've got all the highlights you need to stay updated.
Strategy Sub-Council Review
Another month has passed, and the Strategy Sub-Council (SSC) remains active. Governance V3 has been developed and voted on, with the new Illuvinati rules set to begin at the end of November as elections are underway.
In addition to governance improvements, attention has been given to the declining liquidity in the SLP pool. The potential impact on token trading has been thoroughly evaluated, and a plan to establish an ILV/ETH pair on Uniswap is in the works. This plan, if accepted by the DAO, would be acted on once the solidity team completes their current tasks for Illuvium’s Open Beta.
Discussions about in-game ecosystem concerns have been ongoing. The proposed open beta economy values, including potential fuel values, pricing, run distributions, and drop rates, have been shared with the council.
The council has also generated proposals, one defining GIPs and another enabling the sharing of game assets with third parties. The GIP proposal has passed council votes, while the latter IIP is more complex. Allowing third parties to utilise Illuvium's assets presents opportunities for expanding the project's game portfolio, but detailed arrangements require additional time and legal deliberations for finalisation.
Marketing Sub-Council Review
Over the past month, the Marketing Sub-Council (MSC) has focused on enhancing its primary role of generating ideas and overseeing significant marketing decisions. Discussions involved the potential decentralisation of spending decisions through a "tournament fund proposal."
Illuvium provided the MSC with extensive data on affiliate marketing outcomes. The conclusion was to automate affiliate links and introduce creator codes, especially for guilds and third-party websites. Early-stage development will continue to be monitored.
Conversations also revolved around Illuvium's updated marketing strategy. The MSC emphasised the importance of an engaging PvP reveal and adapting marketing approaches from Web 2 and 3 to leverage emerging trends. They reviewed PB3 launch videos designed to showcase its features, generate excitement, and improve the onboarding process for new players.
Regarding products like 'Battle in the Beyond,' the MSC agreed that these offerings aim to increase Illuvium's revenue without diminishing DAO earnings. The primary focus is exploring how these products can utilise Illuvium's NFTs and IPs to expand marketing reach.
Game Sub-Council Review
The Gaming Sub-Council (GSC) received updates on current game development timelines, explicitly focusing on progress for Illuvium Zero (IZ). Despite the work needed for IZ, all game developments are proceeding swiftly.
Discussions on PvP betting took place, including a follow-up on the proposal for a third-party organisation to manage betting, which is under further review by the Legal team. The exploration of betting and gambling options is ongoing in the Legal department. While Leviathan differs slightly from Ascendant in gameplay and may not necessitate betting, efforts to provide suitable gambling options continue.
Following a meeting with Johnny regarding a Trading Card Game pitch involving Illuvitars, which he intends to share with the community, the Game Sub-Council believes it's premature to introduce or suggest a new game to avoid setting unrealistic expectations. You can find an official statement from the GSC in the Beyond channel of the official Illuvium Discord.
Community Sub-Council Review
In the last month, the Community Sub-Council (CSC) has continued to address critical aspects of Illuvium's governance and community engagement. The CSC prepared for the upcoming Epoch 9 elections by revising nomination forms and enhancing onboarding documentation to reflect better the skills required for council membership. They also identified the need to provide election information in the Governance channel on the Illuvium Discord to ensure transparency and accessibility during the election process.
Proposals Recap
IIP-42 Governance V3 PASSED
IIP-42 is a revision to governance structures based on learnings from Epoch 8. Under Governance V2, a 3-tier system exists, with the Community Sub-Council at the bottom, three specialised sub-councils in the middle, and the IMC at the top. Governance V3 modifies this structure, replacing specialised sub-councils with committees of experts. These committee roles have lower time and engagement requirements than elected council positions and, notably, are appointed by the IMC. This makes these positions more appealing to experts who may not have time to read and engage with feedback while still being able to provide their expertise and context to the DAO’s decisions. Under the new structure, two elected bodies exist - The Community Council and the Illuvium Main Council. Some additional proposal processes are introduced for governance-related proposals. These are to be utilised to help protect against situations where a single decision-making body may have an inherent conflict, providing more objectivity around topics like council pay, requirements for council members or length of epochs.
Additionally, Gov V3 increases IMC pay to $ 5,000/month in light of increased responsibilities and requirements as Illuvium explores options in the regulatory landscape. Epochs are increased from 6 months to 9 months to reduce the overhead of onboarding new council members and to provide additional stability within these roles.
ICCP-13 Trading Blackout Enhancements NEEDS REVISION
ICCP-13 clarifies acceptable behaviours for council members during a Trading Blackout. In particular, listed assets are addressed, as previously, all listed assets would need to be unlisted at the start of a blackout, creating a nuisance scenario. A dollar value cap is implemented with the intent of allowing council members to engage in regular, non-malicious gameplay during a blackout.
IIP-41-R Illuvium PvP Tournament Fund NEEDS REVISION
IIP-41-R is currently up for voting at the IMC level. IIP-41 creates a structure intended to fund tournaments organised by parties who are not Illuvium Labs. Organisations, such as guilds, esports teams or other gaming communities, may apply for a portion of 100 ILV allocated each month. The proposal specifies a review process and a means for the IMC to vote on prepared and reviewed applicants.
